Information on food would be online : Qamrul

Food Minister Qamrul Islam today said information on food collections and preservations will be available online from March-April next.
Information from Union Parishad, Upazila Parishad and Zila parishad would enhance transparency and accountability, the Minister added.
He said people will have access online to all information about food grains and related activities.
The Food Minister was addressing as chief guest in a view exchanging meeting with the divisional officers under the food ministry on ‘Collection of Aman Rice, Food Grains friendly Programme’ held at circuit house.
The programme organized by directorate of food in cooperation with District Administration.
The function was addressed among others by Director General of Food Ministry Badrul Hasan, Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong Shamsul Aferin, regional food grains controller Abdul Kadir, district food grains controller Jahirul Islam.
Officials under the ministry form Chittagong region participated in the view exchanging meeting.
The Minister said the food friendly programme of the government for fifty lakh helpless families at TK 10 per Kilogram rice has been acclaimed by national and international levels.
“The Programme introduced by Sheikh Hasina’s personal initiatives and sincerity should not be stopped and the persons found to be guilty would be dealt with iron hand” Qamrul said.
The Minister said the country now became self-reliant in food. Once, Bangladesh has to import food, but now a day the country exports two lakhs tonns of food abroad.
He said fourth-biggest rice producer, Bangladesh consumes almost all its production to feed its population of 160 million.
