Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology today urged the telecom regulator to take measures to raise mass awareness about caller ID spoofing.

It said Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) should aware the people about spoofing so they are refrained to call back in reply to any call received through caller ID spoofing.

The parliamentary watchdog body made the call at its 18th meeting held at Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban here with committee chairman Imran Ahmad in the chair.

State minister for posts and telecommunications Tarana Halim and committee member Moazzem Hossain Ratan, MP, were present at the meeting.

The committee was apprised that country’s first communication satellite “Bangabandhu-I” would be possible to launch to the orbit in December 16 this year.

Besides, different issues –complaint management taskforce, quality of service, second submarine cable, reduction of internet price and bandwidth export to northeastern provinces of India– were also discussed at the meeting.

In addition, the development works of optical fiber network at upazila and union levels, rebranding of Teletalk, post e-centre for rural community, e-post office etc were explained before the committee.  Officials concerned were present at the meeting.
