Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu said today that cultural movement was as important as political struggle in the battle against militancy.

The minister was speaking as chief guest on the third day of a ten-day cultural festival arranged by the Bengal Foundation here.

Recollecting that ’52, ’71 and ’90 bore testimony to cultural victory, he said, “Religion had been used repeatedly in the past to confront culture. But the creative struggle always inspired the political movements to victory.”

Referring to the martyrs of the Language Movement, the minister said there is no inherent conflict between religion and culture. Religion teaches people to love fellow human beings and nature and this consciousness reflects through culture, he added.

The festival and exhibition was inaugurated by Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith on February 22. The exhibition and festivities will continue till March 3.
